PROSTATE CANCER
- PROSTATE CANCER
Prostate Cancer and its Management
Prostate Cancer is one of the most common cancers
affecting middle aged and elderly men. Very often the cancer remains silent
till a very late stage. Therefore every male after the age of fifty years
should have an early PSA (Prostate specific antigen) evaluation. Once elevated
PSA is detected, then a Uro- surgeon evaluates the patient and advises a trans-rectal
prostate biopsy when indicated.
If cancer is confirmed, then the extent of spread
of the cancer is confirmed by an MRI Prostate and a Bone scan. For fit patients,
the best therapy is by surgery. This surgery is best performed by laparoscopy. Laparoscopic
Radical Prostate surgery provides excellent quality of life for most patients.
Therefore all men should be aware of their prostate health.
